Mary River is the gateway to Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land. If you've come from Darwin head on to see Jabiru, Gunlom, Jim Jim Falls, Yellow Water, the Ubirr Rock Art Site and other stunning attractions in Kakadu National Park. Arnhem Land is also accessible from the Mary River region but you will need a permit to enter the area.

Mary River National Park protects a part of the Mary River catchment that includes the river, flood plains, billabongs, paperbark forests, swamps and rainforest. Birds and crocodiles are prolific, and that wonderful fighting fish, the barramundi, is a magnet for anglers.
The Mary River catchment consists of flood plains, billabongs, woodlands, paper bark and monsoon forests. Visitors can enjoy a number of activities that include 4WD'ing the Wildman and Hardies 4WD tracks, bush walking and photography.
The Mary River National Park (proposed) protects a part of the Mary River catchment. Freshwater billabongs, paperbark and monsoon forests provide visitors with excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, fishing, bushwalking and photography. The Mary River is one of eight rivers in the Top End which have large floodplains in their catchments.
