Brooyar State Forest - Nestled in the hills north-west of Gympie, Brooyar State Forest is a quiet park including rainforest, eucalypt and hoop pine. Whilst walking opportunities are a little slim, the park includes a couple of good lookouts and also has some good climbing crags.
West of Gympie, Brooyar State Forest is known for having some of Qld's best hoop pine plantations and cliff-top lookouts. Visitors can take rainforest walks or kick through the shallows of Glastonbury Creek. Northern access is from Petersen Rd from the Wide Bay Hwy 20 km west of Gympie.
Brooyar State Forest is a 2.5 hour drive north of Brisbane, near Gympie. It features 10+ crags suitable for beginner to intermediate/advanced (13-25) lead climbers. Trad climbers may also find their fix here but as I don't currently trad climb, I can't advise on good crags or routes for this type of climbing.
