Coonatto Station is a family owned and operated 12,000 acre property located in the Southern Flinders Ranges about 300 km north of Adelaide. It has been in the Lock family since 1912. Coonatto Station is currently managed by John and his wife Erica and their 3 children Morgan, Nicole and Dylan.

At first the area was on the pastoral lease of Coonatto Station, granted to Alexander Grant in 1853. Within three years of being proclaimed, Carrieton had a railway line connecting it with Orroroo and Quorn. Unfortunately the station was more than two kilometres from the town.

Coonatto Station is passed some 7km beyond Hammond along the Wilmington-Carrieton road. Unlike Kanyaka it is still an operational property and therefore not able to be visited, but at least one throwback to it's heyday is clearly seen from the road. That is the former Coonatto station chapel...
